Hot Forging

In hot forging, a heated billet is pressed between dies in a die set to a close to finished product. This process sees large numbers of solid metal parts produced in aluminium alloys, copper alloys, steel or super-alloys where irregular shapes need to be combined with good mechanical properties.

ASSAB’s steel programme of grades ideal for forging includes QRO 90 Supreme, Unimax, Dievar, Formvar, ASSAB 8407 Supreme , ASSAB 8407 2M and Skolvar.

Each of them has stood the test of time as a reliable forging tool steel offering different combinations of high thermal conductivity, high resistance to wear at elevated temperature and good hot yield strength.

Formvar is a significant upgrade from the market’s traditional H13 and H11 forging tools offering good tempering back resistance, hot yield strength and increased tool life. For a forging die, this means better resistance to hot wear and plastic deformation, which also leads to production cost efficiency.
